Far Breton aux Pruneaux (Prunes Custard Pudding)

[By Chef Ocit]

Far Breton aux Pruneaux is a classic French custard pudding made with soft, creamy batter and sweet dried prunes. The prunes add a rich, fruity flavor that perfectly complements the smooth, buttery texture. Simple yet elegant, it’s a comforting dessert to enjoy at home or serve for special occasions.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 100 g dried prunes
  • 125 g sugar
  • 100 g all-purpose flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 60 g salted butter
  • 500 ml full-cream milk

Instructions

How to Make:

  • Soak the dried prunes in warm water for about 15 minutes, then drain.
  • In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and vanilla essence until well combined.
  • Add the flour gradually while stirring to avoid lumps.
  • Warm the milk and melted butter, then slowly pour them into the mixture while stirring until smooth.
  • Grease a baking dish with butter and arrange the prunes evenly on the bottom.
  • Pour the batter over the prunes.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 40–45 minutes, or until set and golden brown.
  • Let it cool before slicing. Serve warm or chilled.
